Logical Framework Template

Logical Framework Approach Summary

The Logical Framework Approach (LFA) is a comprehensive project management methodology used extensively by development agencies for identifying, designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating development projects.

It culminates in creating a Logical Framework (Log Frame), a 4x4 table that provides a snapshot of the project.

LogFramework Summary:

NARRATIVE SUMMARY INDICATORS MEANS OF VERIFICATION ASSUMPTIONS
GOAL / IMPACT Describes the long-term, broad objective the project aims to contribute to. Metrics to measure the achievement of the goal. Data sources and methods to verify goal achievement. External conditions for goal achievement.
PURPOSE / OUTCOME Specific objective the project aims to achieve by its conclusion. Measures to assess the success of the project’s purpose. Methods and sources for data collection to monitor purpose indicators. Conditions necessary for achieving the purpose.
OUTPUTS Tangible products or services resulting from activities. Metrics to measure the production of outputs. Methods to verify the achievement of outputs. Factors necessary for producing outputs.
ACTIVITIES Specific tasks and actions to produce outputs. Measures to assess the completion of activities. Tools to verify the completion of activities. Preconditions for successfully carrying out activities.

Main Components of Logical framework

Goal/Impact: The long-term results the intervention aims to contribute to, though the project is not solely accountable for this.

Purpose/Outcome: What the project will achieve by its end, representing the publicly stated aim.

Outputs: The intermediate changes or products resulting from activities, which collectively create the outcome.

Activities: Actions carried out using inputs like funds and technical assistance.
